Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean Sea with very nice and warm weather throughout the whole year. At the same time, tuition fees and living costs are one of the most affordable in Europe. Cyprus provides an excellent educational system, great universities and numerous opportunities to choose a program to study. Besides its sunny beaches and nightlife, Cyprus has received significant investment to promote its education system in the region.
Some information about the island that you should know. Cyprus is divided into two parts: northern and southern. The northern part is directed by Turkey (and is called: the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) and southern Cyprus is supported by Greece (and is called: the Republic of Cyprus). Cyprus is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and is positioned in the southern part of Turkey and is considered to be the crossroad between Africa, Asia, and Europe. Please note that although both countries occupy the same island, their laws, culture, religion, and language are totally different. Southern Cyprus is also a member of the EU since 2004.

The country has some of the best-ranked universities, the tuition fees are reasonable and the cost of living affordable. You will have the opportunity to choose from various academic principles such as business, marketing, finance, art, music, medicine, law, and others.
Cyprus has both public and private universities and there has been an effort to improve higher education and at the same time invest in research. The Department of Higher Tertiary Education (DAAE) has introduced a Council of Educational Evaluation-Accreditation with the purpose of monitoring and improving the educational system. You may also pursue a bachelor’s (four years), master’s (one to two years), or doctorate (three to five years) degree.
A bachelor's degree in Cyprus is four years. You will need to have a diploma along with transcripts. IELTS is widely accepted and you will need a score of 5.5 or 6 (but different universities have dissimilar language requirements).
A Master's degree in Cyprus is usually two-years (four semesters). You must have a bachelor's degree related to the field of study in which you wish to attend. You may apply based on your academic record. Depending on the university you wish to apply they will have different language requirements but if you have an IELTS 6.5 degree or equivalent, you will not be required to take a language test.
You may also study for a doctorate in Cyprus which is research-based. Usually, you must attend eight courses and submit a thesis. It takes three to five years and you should have completed a master’s degree in order to be accepted.
Qualifications
You will need a senior high school diploma or IB or equivalent to apply as an undergraduate student in Cyprus. Each university has different entry requirements, so please make sure that you will have all the documentation (such as a transcript). You may find programs in either Greek or English.
English language tests
The IELTS/TOEFL certifications are quite common in Cyprus but do check with the university of your preference.
EU/EEA/EFTA national
EU nationals and citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland do not require a student visa. However, they will need a residence permit if their intended stay exceeds three months.
Non-EU/EEA/EFTA national
You need a Cyprus student visa if you are not a citizen of EU/EEA/Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland (EFTA) or want to study in Cyprus for a period longer than 90 days.

The level of tuition fees depends on the type of study program and its duration. Tuition fees are provided by universities. The annual cost of studying at a university for an undergraduate degree is between €3,000 to €13,000 whereas for a master’s degree is between €5,000 to €10,000.
If you wish to study Medicine and Dentistry, the tuition fees are higher, between €10,000 to 22,000. The tuition fees for a doctorate degree is approximately €7,000 or higher.
Cyprus offers annually several scholarships to international students (offered at various undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels). They are provided either by the government or the university and offered to a limited number of students each year.
Accommodation costs vary and all is down to whether you choose to stay at the university's Halls of Residence or rent a private home/studio. Staying within the university premises will allow you to control your costs and budget.
