Based in the heart of London, New College of the Humanities (NCH London) has developed a reputation for delivering an excellent university experience180 and has exceeded all Russell Group universities for overall student satisfaction in the UK’s National Student Survey for three consecutive years (NSS 2019, 2020 and 2021).
Small by design, NCH London offers a vibrant, collegiate community delivering broad and academically rigorous degree programmes, designed to equip graduates with the combination of skills and knowledge that are increasingly desired by organisations, employers and society.
Following the grant of Taught Degree Awarding Powers in February 2020, the College is expanding its portfolio by developing interdisciplinary degree programmes, which combine its emphasis on the humanities with the exploration of complementary scientific subjects.
As part of Northeastern University’s global network, the College has a global outlook and enjoys wide-ranging support from a highly ranked US teaching and research institution, while retaining its academic independence as a UK higher education institution. Furthermore, with its campuses in Boston, Charlotte,San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Toronto and Vancouver, Northeastern’s network opens up enormous opportunities for NCH students and graduates, including the possibility of studying in the USA.
In addition, NCH students have full access to the digital resources of Northeastern University’s Library allowing them to access hundreds of electronic journals, ebooks and databases.
The College also welcomes international students from around the globe converging in London to study a range of Northeastern University programmes, including NU.in and GEP, which in turn, broadens students’ global outlook and networking opportunities during their time at the College.
Our experienced and respected faculty are passionate about teaching and research. Teaching through small seminars, lectures (see below), small group tutorials and (one some courses) one-to-one tutorials, provides our students with unique opportunities to explore the curriculum in-depth, with a significant level of engagement with other students, tutors and lecturers Our courses are challenging, enriching and offer our students further personal development and enhanced skills.
Lectures at the College take a variety of forms, depending on the learning outcomes they seek to foster. Some focus on the dissemination of ideas, some on the demonstration of skills and approaches, and some involve more active group participation (for example). Short talking head videos may also be included in the virtual learning environment that accompanies each course.
